Eco Friendly Cleaning Tips

July 7, 2011

Eco-friendly cleaning products are becoming more popular as people realise the environmental benefits of avoiding harmful substances found in non-natural products. For the more environmentally conscious of us the below tips provide in many cases less expensive and more eco-friendly house cleaning alternatives.

You can also save lots of money by using natural ingredients such as lemons, white vinegar and bi-carbonate of soda, which usually masquerade as food ingredients in your cupboards.

A blocked drain or sink can be a real inconvenience instead of pouring drain un-blocker, which is made from lots of poisonous chemicals you can mix up one cup of bicarbonate of soda and a cup each of vinegar and salt. Pour the mixture down your drain or sink after an hour or so boil a kettle of water and rinse.

Removing lime-scale is a real task and it often builds up faster if you live in a hard water area. Instead of buying expensive lime-scale remover which again contains substances which are not environmentally friendly you can use lemon juice and soak it with some cotton wool, wrap it around the tap make sure they are not plated and cover with a plastic bag secured with some string or a rubber band. Leave the bag on overnight and then in the morning remove the bag and scrub the tap with an old toothbrush.

If you do not like to breath in all the potentially harmful fumes that air fresheners spray there are safer alternatives. You can simmer a cinnamon stick in some water with a couple of drops of lemon juice this leaves your house smelling sweet.

There is a natural environmentally friendly solution for all your house cleaning needs even if you need to give your windows a clean. Use one of your old spray bottles and fill it with some water, 5 table spoons of vinegar and some lemon juice. Spray the solution on to your windows and wipe down with some old newspaper.

Out of all of the things you can clean in your home the toilet has to be the least favourite. To get rid of nasty hard water marks pour some fizzy cola down the toilet, leave it for about an hour and then flush.

If you have kids or you lead an active lifestyle you will no doubt be aware of how dirty your bath can become to remedy this simply use 1 part white vinegar and 5 parts water and give your bath a good scrub.

Finger marks on stainless steel surfaces and utensils can be unsightly especially if you are entertaining guests. To leave stainless steel sparkling use olive oil and wipe with some kitchen towel.

To freshen up your carpets you do not need to buy anything special or expensive. Simply mix up some bicarbonate of soda and talcum powder, leave for a few minutes and then vacuum.

You do not need to buy furniture polish either. Use an old spray bottle and mix a small cup of olive oil and another cup of lemon juice.

To clean your brass ornaments and leave them sparkling clean mix half a teaspoon of salt and half a cup of white vinegar, and then add enough flour to make a paste. After you have done this apply a thick coat, leave it on for about 30-40 minutes and then rinse off.

Celeb Engagement Rings

September 8, 2010

An engagement ring is often one of the most expensive and important pieces of jewellery a couple will ever purchase, they are also a symbol of unity and love between two people. So it comes as no surprise that some extravagant celebrities go to great lengths and expense to buy the most lavish and expensive engagement rings in the world. These are not your average costume jewellery rings they are some of the most expensive rings ever sold.

Many people think that diamonds are used for engagement rings because they are the most expensive stones. This is actually not the case Blue Sapphires, Rubies and Alexandrite are rarer and can be more expensive than diamonds. The ancient Greeks believed that diamonds were a symbol of inner fire and a reflection of the burning flame of everlasting love, they also called them ‘tear drops of the gods’. It is also thought the ancient Greeks started the tradition of wearing an engagement ring on the third finger of the left hand as according to them there is a vein that extends down from the heart to this finger. The diamond was probably also chosen as the stone of choice because it is the hardest mineral known to man, which helps to symbolise loves unbreakable bond.

Yellow diamonds are very rare and expensive. One of the most expensive wedding rings ever sold was by an american Kentucky based jeweller which was 11-carats and cost 1.25 million dollars. The ring was so expensive it had to be delivered by armoured truck. Charlie Sheen is one such star who likes yellow diamonds he bought a 5-carat diamond ring for his ex-wife Brooke Mueller in 2007 for 500,000 dollars.

It is not just the size of the diamond that determines its value but also its clarity and the way it is cut. The Royal Asscher Diamond Company is one of the most famous and respected diamond cutting specialists in the world and is famous for its patented emblematic cut, which has been refined using modern technology to incorporate a new cut called the Royal Asscher Cut. Famous stars that have bought Asscher diamond rings include Ryan Phillipe and Reese Witherspoon, who bought an Asscher cut ring for 520,000 dollars back in 1998. Queen Elizabeth II also owns an Asscher cut ring.

Engagement rings are very meaningful pieces of jewellery and this is depicted by how they look and the way they are designed. David Beckham bought his wife Victoria a diamond ring called the ‘Secret Kiss of The Rose’ it was called this because it holds a 0.9-carat pink diamond in its centre, which is supposed to represent a heart this is surrounded by 4.5-carats of white diamonds and cost $525,000.

However for some celebrities the main concern is how big the rock actually is and in 2005 Paris Hilton caught the attention of the media. Her 24-carat 4.7 million dollar white diamond engagement ring was one of the most expensive rings ever sold. The ring was so expensive she probably needed bodyguards just wear it in public. Due to the cost of the ring her fiancé Latsis reportedly bought her a more conservative wedding band for everyday use.

The most expensive celebrity engagement ring ever sold was for Beyonce Knowles by rapper Jay-Z. It is an 18-carat white diamond ring which is said to be worth 5 million dollars and was designed by jeweller to the stars Lorraine Schwartz.

Most of these engagement rings are almost unbelievably big and extravagant and probably look like costume jewellery rings when worn. A perfect way of buying an engagement ring is to take your partner with you and pick one which suitably represents your love for one another.

25% of computer viruses are spread through USB devices

September 6, 2010

When looking to keep your computer safe it is not only internet security you need to be concerned about. PandaLabs have discovered around 25% of new worms in 2010 have been designed to spread through devices that connect to your PC via a USB port.

Quite a high proportion of the malware currently infecting computers are being passed through USB storage devices including mobile phones, external hard drives, flash memory sticks and other gadgets and gizmos like portable players.

This new way of spreading computer viruses is an effective one for hackers and cyber criminals as many computers are being infected in this way. The virus on the device will most often run automatically when connected through a USB.

Typically in the past viruses are spread over the internet through email and files which have been made available for download on a website. With good internet security vigilance you can protect your PC.

The spread of virus through removable devices continues to grow. The auto run feature typical of many USB devices is what the cyber criminals use to spread the virus. When the device is hooked up the virus automatically runs and infects the machine. Quite often USB drives often do not need administrative right to access your computer so the malicious code on the device can access your computers files immediately.

If you want to protect your computer from USB virus attacks you can set up your computer to turn off auto run or you can use antivirus software that will disable the auto run feature. USB blocking software will give administrators the chance to specify which drives removable storage can access. This will help to protect your computers files and documents.

The best antivirus software will help to keep your computer safe from infection. Stay up to date with the latest antivirus reviews to keep updated.

Computer Help

July 7, 2010

We all use computers these days for everything. Shopping, communicating and working. Without computers it would be difficult to get on with the most basic working tasks. Sending emails is a prime example. Emails are the quickest way to communicate with people and once the email is read the response can be sent immediately. This makes it the most efficient way to communicate in business.

The telephone is also good but there is no documentation of what has been discussed when you have a call and you can’t send documents over the phone. Well you can with a fax but this takes time and there is a waste of paper. I was once at work and the server went down and I couldn’t send any emails would you believe it took IT support 3 days to fix the problem! I couldn’t believe how near impossible it was to work having no email .
